It is that time of year again when the HACD hold its annual elections.  This year the Northeast and West Director seats were each up for election as well as one At-Large seat.  The nomination process for the Northeast and West regions did not yield a competitive election (two or more nominees), however, the At-Large election will feature three nominees all running for a single open seat.

The election, for the first time, will be by electronic ballot so if you haven't already verified that the BFA office has your preferred email address on file you will want to do so as soon as possible.

The three candidates for the At-Large position are listed alphabetically below:

HACD_LogoIt's that time of the year again when we call upon the membership to step up and take on a volunteer role within the HACD by serving as one of the Regional Directors.  Up for election this year are the Southeast and North Central Regions, as well as the At-Large Official position.  Prerequisites for a Director's role include only that each applicant be a member in good standing with both the BFA and HACD.

2009 Candidate Statement of Jason Jones Print E-mail

Dear HACD North Central Region Members,

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself, my name is Jason Jones and I am running for the NC Regional Director for the BFA Hot Air Competition Division. I am very fortunate to have grown up in our sport and very much want to represent you in the Competition Division.

I started out crewing at a very young age and by the age of 16 I was the crew chief for my parents at the National Championships in my home town, Indianola, IA. Growing up there I was able to watch many great pilots compete. Pilots like Rob Bartholomew, Jim Thompson, Bruce Comstock to name a few that I admired and hoped to fly like some day. Of course there are many other great pilots from all over the country that I greatly respect.

After crewing I became a pilot in my early twenties and immediately started competing. Early in my flying career, I am sure just like many of you, a race within a days drive was a race I wanted to attend. I truly love the competitive aspect of our sport. After competing at many weekend and week long races I got a chance to start working as a assistant race director at the National Balloon Classic. I spent six years in the office at the Classic with two of those as the Race Director. I also have spent the last three years as safety officer at the Great Pershing Balloon Derby, the longest running BFA sanction event in the country. Currently I am working very hard to try and keep a sanction event in the Kansas City area. We had twenty balloons fly here this year and I hope to make it a bigger and better event in 2010.

In closing I hope I can earn your vote for the open NC Regional Directors position in the Competition Division. I feel that I bring not only a love for competitive ballooning but also a person who has and will continue to sit on both the race director and competitive pilot side of the table to improve our sport.

Competition Division Members,

It is my wish to be considered for election for the Hot Air Balloon Competition Division board as the Southeast chair.  Some of the reasons I believe I am qualified for this position are that I have competed in a wide range of events, develop and share new ideas, and have a passion for competition ballooning.
My competition experiences around the world have made me privy to some of the greatest minds in ballooning.  It would be my plan to share my version of the insight and lessons I have learned over the years with the board in hopes of bettering the competition ballooning community.  Some changes I would like to see are a regularly updated website that contains detailed accounts of events and provides results to all members who can't attend every weekend event.  It is also my belief that the current national ranking and world qualification systems can be improved.  It would be my intention to actively contribute to the improvement of policies that would better suit competitive ballooning and grow membership.
Some of the experiences that have prepared me for this position are competing in several national championships, multiple events around the world, and most importantly getting to know the competitors that love the sport.  I have a wealth of ideas I am eager to share and look forward to the opportunity to do so.  It is my opinion that there is no reason the BFA is not the foremost authority on competitive ballooning in the world and I feel my passion and determination will be well served on the competition division board.
