BFA’s most prestigious award is the Shields-Trauger Award and the Board of Directors voted to approve two nominations for 2013.
Cheri Edwards White was awarded the Shields-Trauger Award in the category of a notable flight for her 2012 America’s Challenge gas balloon flight. The flight covered over 2600 km from Albuquerque to North Carolina and lasted over 62 hours.
Cindy Petrehn was posthumously awarded the Shields-Trauger Award in the category of exemplary service to the BFA and the ballooning community. Cindy was a dedicated contributor for many years to Ballooning magazine in addition to serving as the official photographer for many events including the U.S. National Championships. Beyond her tangible contributions, Cindy served as a wonderful ambassador for the BFA throughout the community in the US and abroad. Many of Cindy’s family and friends were in attendance to accept the award in her honor.
