Unlike the BFA Pilot Achievement Award Program (PAAP), the Sporting Badge program is a common set of tasks, or progressive difficulty, which challenges the pilot on the full scope of balloon flight. Festival Guidelines Committee

In response to the current hot air balloon insurance environment and the history of balloon incidents and accidents occurring at organized balloon events across the Unites States over the past five years, the BFA Board has established an ad hoc committee to develop a publication aimed at encouraging safer balloon events by providing guidance for event organizers, officials and pilots.

Long Jump and Team Challenge
In order to further promote hot air balloon pilot and crew skills and to create opportunities to fulfill requirements for pilot and crew achievement award programs, the BFA International Long Jump Challenge and Team Challenge have been established. In this Challenge, the pilots are scored on the distance traveled on one continuous flight with a limited allowance of fuel. Click here for more information.
